Claude Code

A version of Claude that runs from the terminal inside a folder on your machine. It reads files directly and writes results to new files or edits existing ones.

Terminal

A window where you type text commands to your computer. Here you only need it to install, open the folder and start Claude.

Interactive mode

A chat session with Claude inside the terminal. You type your request in plain language and Claude carries it out on the folder's files, reporting as it goes.

Current folder

The folder your terminal is in when you start Claude. Claude sees everything in it and in its subfolders.

The steps

   Step 1

   Install Claude Code and sign in

   You need Node.js version 18 or later before you start. Open the terminal, check the version, then install Claude Code.

   The first time you run claude, a browser window opens so you can sign in with your account. After that you never touch credentials again.
