Turn a shared folder into a skill serverArabic

Arabic

Symlink

🔧 Claude Code
Terminal

🔧 Dropbox
Dropbox

🔧 Terminal
Mac

name: direct-style
ln -s ~/Dropbox/team-skills ~/.claude/skills

Turn a shared folder into a skill server
One Dropbox folder is all it takes to give your entire team the same Claude behavior, instantly.

When everyone on a team prompts Claude differently, the outputs look like they came from different tools entirely. One person gets structured documentation, another gets rambling prose, and a third needs three editing rounds before the result is usable. The problem is not Claude. The problem is that there are no shared settings. That is what Skills fix.

**What it actually is**

Claude Skills are plain .md text files that tell Claude exactly how to behave in a specific situation. Instead of explaining your preferences at the start of every session ("always respond formally, always in Arabic, never restate my question back to me"), you write those instructions once in a Skill file and Claude follows them automatically from that point forward.

Think of it like a template in any design tool. You do not rebuild the same layout from scratch every session. You open the template and start from a finished foundation.

**How it works**

Claude Code (the official Claude tool built for developers and teams) reads Skill files from a designated folder on your local machine. Every .md file you place in that folder becomes an active Skill Claude applies automatically.

The smart move is making that folder a synced cloud folder on Dropbox, iCloud Drive, or OneDrive. From there:

1️⃣ You place your team's Skill files in one shared cloud folder
2️⃣ Each team member links Claude Code to that folder using a Symlink
3️⃣ Any edit you make to a Skill file propagates to everyone within seconds
4️⃣ The whole team works with identical Claude behavior, with zero manual coordination

**Where you see it**

This setup pays off across a wide range of team contexts:

📋 Content teams who need every piece of writing to sound like it came from one voice
🧑‍💻 Engineering teams who want Claude to follow agreed code style and review standards
🧾 Operations teams who need consistent report formats and output templates
🌐 Distributed companies whose members work across multiple locations and time zones

**🛠️ Tools you actually use**

🔧 Claude Code
The official Claude tool from Anthropic built for developers and teams. It runs from the Terminal and reads Skill files from a designated local folder, turning your .md files into real Claude behavior across every session.
How to get started:
1️⃣ Go to claude.ai/code and download Claude Code for your machine
2️⃣ Install and launch it from your Terminal
3️⃣ Follow the initial setup steps it walks you through on first run

🔧 Dropbox
The file sync service that makes your Skills folder shared across the whole team. Any change to any Skill file appears for everyone within seconds. You can swap it for iCloud Drive or OneDrive depending on what your team already uses.
How to get started:
1️⃣ Go to dropbox.com and sign in or create a free account
2️⃣ Download the Dropbox desktop app on your machine
3️⃣ Create a new folder inside Dropbox called something like team-skills

🔧 Terminal
Built into every Mac and Linux machine with nothing to install. You use it to link Claude Code to your Dropbox folder via a Symlink, so Claude treats the shared cloud folder as if it were a local folder sitting directly on your machine.
How to get started:
1️⃣ Open Terminal from Spotlight or your system applications folder
2️⃣ No installation needed. It is already there on every Mac.

**💡 Try it yourself: step by step**

Create a shared Skill that makes Claude always respond in plain, direct English with no preamble, then share it with one other person on your team.

1️⃣ Open your Dropbox folder and create a new folder called team-skills inside it
2️⃣ Inside that folder, create a new text file called direct-style.md and write the following inside it:
name: direct-style
description: Makes Claude respond directly with no preamble
Always respond directly. No restating the question. No filler phrases. Get to the point immediately.
3️⃣ Open Terminal and run this command to link Claude Code to the shared folder:
ln -s ~/Dropbox/team-skills ~/.claude/skills
4️⃣ Open Claude Code and send any message. Notice how the responses feel sharper without you asking for anything.
Anyone else on the team who runs that same Symlink command gets the exact same behavior immediately.

**What to do next**

✅ Write your team's first Skill and make tone or response language the first thing it standardizes
✅ Read the official Claude Skills documentation to understand the full .md format and what options are available
✅ Ask yourself which task your team members each handle differently today, and where a shared standard would actually save time

When your standards live in a shared file instead of inside everyone's head, the team moves like one thing.
