شات أم كود أم كوورك: أي واجهة من كلود تشغّل مهمة شركتك الناشئةClaude Chat vs Code vs Cowork: Which One Runs Your Startup Task
A four question framework to route every startup task to the right Claude surface: Chat for thinking and writing, Code for real changes to your repo, and Cowork or a scheduled run for recurring work.
Who this guide is for
Founders and small startup teams who use Claude for everything and want to stop guessing
Key terms
- Claude Chat
- The conversation interface, with projects, files and sources. Fast for thinking, drafting and research, but it cannot touch your terminal or files, so you copy results out by hand.
- Claude Code
- An agent that runs in your terminal or editor with access to your project files. It runs commands, writes code, runs tests and makes commits.
- Claude Cowork
- The surface for work that runs in the background and hands you a finished result, like recurring reports, instead of waiting on your replies.
- Headless run
- Running Claude Code with claude -p from a script or a schedule, with no chat window open.
- git worktree
- A separate working copy of the same repo on its own branch, so several agents can work at once without touching the same files.
The steps
Step 1
Ask four questions before you open any tool
Most founders open Chat for everything: an investor email, a full feature, a weekly ops report. That default costs time and money.
Run four questions in order. First, is the result text or a decision, or is it code and a real system change? Text or a decision goes to Chat. Second, does the task need project files or the ability to run commands? Then it belongs in Code, the only surface that can touch your files and run real tests. Third, does it repeat without your daily involvement? That is Cowork territory, or a scheduled run. Fourth, is it big enough for several agents in parallel? That separates plain Code from a parallel setup.
Paste the prompt below whenever you are unsure.
PromptTask classifierBefore I start this task, help me choose the right Claude surface: Chat, Code or Cowork. The task: [describe the task] Answer four questions: 1. Is the result text or a decision, or is it code and a real change to a system? 2. Does the task need direct access to project files or the ability to run commands in a terminal? 3. Does the task repeat on a fixed schedule without my daily involvement? 4. Is the task big enough to justify more than one agent working in parallel? Based on your answers, name the right surface in one clear sentence and give one reason.
