Overnight run

Claude runs a chain of connected tasks in the background, each step using the output of the one before, with nobody watching.

MCP server

A link between Claude and one source, such as email or a calendar. You add it once and Claude pulls fresh data from it at run time.

Non interactive mode

Running Claude with claude -p. It takes the prompt, does the work, prints the result and exits. No chat.

launchd

The scheduler built into macOS. If the Mac is asleep at the scheduled time, it runs the job as soon as the Mac wakes.

   Step 1

   Install Claude Code and confirm it runs without a chat

   Install Claude Code, then run claude once and sign in with your account.

   Next, test non interactive mode with claude -p. If the answer comes straight back, you are ready for overnight runs.

   Multi step overnight jobs use far more than a normal chat session, so make sure your usage limits can cover them.
