Scan your site for free and see how answer engines like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity read it, then fix the basics yourself and scan again.
Who this guide is for
Founders and small teams who run a website and want to show up in AI answers
Key terms
- AEO (answer engine optimization)
- Preparing your site so AI tools can read it, understand it and mention it in their answers. SEO does the same for Google results.
- Answer engine
- A tool that gives you a written answer instead of a list of links, like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity.
- KSHF
- A Flow Plus tool that runs 60 checks on your site based on how answer engines read the web, then gives you a score and a report. The scan is free with no signup.
- robots.txt
- A small file at the root of your site that tells crawlers which pages they may read.
- Structured data
- A short JSON-LD snippet that describes your page in a format machines understand: who you are, what you sell, questions and answers.
The steps
Step 1
Open KSHF and scan your site
Go to flowplus.ae/aeo and click Run free AEO scan. It is free, needs no signup and finishes in seconds.
Start with your homepage, then scan your most important service or product page.
Type your site and click Run free AEO scanSource: flowplus.ae Tip: Write down your first score so you can compare after the fixes.
Step 2
Read the report and start with what matters
The report gives you a score and tells you what stops answer engines from understanding or mentioning your site.
Do not fix everything at once. Pick the three issues with the biggest impact and start there.
PromptA fix plan from the reportHere is an AEO scan report for my site [site URL]: [paste the report] Rank the issues from highest to lowest impact. For each one, tell me what it means in plain words, who fixes it (me or a developer), and roughly how long it takes.
Step 3
Let AI crawlers in
Open your robots.txt ([your site]/robots.txt). Make sure it does not block crawlers like OAI-SearchBot and GPTBot (OpenAI), ClaudeBot (Anthropic) and PerplexityBot.
Crawler names change sometimes, so check each company's docs before you edit.
Example: OpenAI's page explains what each crawler does and how to allow it in robots.txtSource: developers.openai.com PromptReview robots.txtHere is my site's robots.txt: [paste the file] Tell me whether it blocks answer engine crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot, and write an updated version that allows them and keeps every other rule.
Tip: Keep private pages like dashboards and checkout blocked.
Step 4
Write clear answers on your pages
Answer engines like a page that answers a clear question in its first two lines: who you are, what you offer, for whom, and where.
Take your most important page and make its first paragraph a direct answer, not a slogan.
PromptRewrite the first paragraphHere is the text of my [page name] page: [paste the text] Rewrite the first paragraph so it clearly answers: who we are, what we offer, for whom, and where. Two or three sentences, no hype, same language as the page.
Step 5
Add structured data and an FAQ
Add an Organization JSON-LD snippet to your homepage and an FAQPage snippet to your FAQ page. It helps machines understand who you are without guessing.
If your site runs on Webflow or WordPress, there is usually a place to add code to the head.
Google's official steps to add Organization markup and test it with the Rich Results TestSource: developers.google.com PromptGenerate JSON-LDWrite Organization and FAQPage JSON-LD for my site: Name: [company name] URL: [site URL] Description: [one sentence] City: [city] Social profiles: [links] Questions and answers: [paste 5 questions with answers] Make it valid and ready to paste into the head, with nothing that is not listed above.
Tip: Only put questions in the FAQ that you can really answer.
Step 6
Scan again and compare
Once your changes are live, go back to KSHF and scan the same page. Compare the new score with the first one and see what is left.
Repeat the same steps on your other key pages, one page at a time.
Ready prompts to copy
If someone asked you about [service] in [city], which companies would you mention? If you would not mention [my company], what is missing on its site [site URL] for you to mention it?
The takeaway
Scan, fix the top three issues, scan again. Your site should be as clear to a machine as it is to your customer.
