مونتاج فيديوهاتك داخل ChatGPT: Codex مع plugin الـ Remotion خطوة بخطوةEdit Your Videos Inside ChatGPT: Codex with the Remotion Plugin, Step by Step

Turn a raw clip into a finished reel: pauses and mistakes cut, word timed captions and zooms on your best lines, all from Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app.

Who this guide is for

Creators who film themselves and lose hours in editing

Key terms

Codex
The agent inside the ChatGPT desktop app that writes and runs code. It works only inside your project folder.
Remotion
A tool that makes videos with code. Instead of dragging clips by hand, code decides where to cut and where captions go.
Plugin
An add on that gives Codex ready made skills. The Remotion plugin is maintained by Remotion itself.
Transcript
Your speech written out with the timing of every word. It tells the edit where to cut and where captions land.

The steps

  1. Step 1

    Get what you need

You need the ChatGPT desktop app (Mac or Windows), Node.js installed from nodejs.org, and a few GB of free space.

The best clip is vertical, one person talking, with clear audio in a quiet room. Cleaner audio means more accurate captions.

Tip: Film in a quiet room. Noise breaks the timing more than anything else.

  2. Step 2

Open Codex in the ChatGPT app

Open the ChatGPT desktop app and sign in. From the menu at the top, switch from ChatGPT to Codex.

Codex writes the editing code and runs it on your computer.

  3. Step 3

    Add the Remotion plugin

In Codex, open the Plugins tab, search for Remotion and add it.

Remotion maintains this plugin itself, and it bundles Agent Skills that know how to build a video properly.

Tip: If it does not show up, check the plugin is enabled and start a new chat.

  4. Step 4

    Create a project folder

Create an empty folder with a plain name such as reels, and put your clip in it with no spaces in the name, such as clip01.mp4.

In Codex, create a new project on that folder. Codex then works only on these files.

  5. Step 5

Call Remotion and write the edit brief

Start a new chat in the project, type $remotion and pick the plugin when Codex suggests it.

Then paste the brief below and change the parts in brackets. Keep the last line: it makes Codex stop and show you the transcript before it renders.

    PromptEdit brief
Edit [clip01.mp4] into a vertical reel for [Instagram Reels]. Transcribe it locally with word level timestamps. Cut pauses longer than 0.6 seconds and standalone filler words, keeping about 120 ms of audio on each side of every cut. Add captions 3 to 4 words at a time in bold white, highlighting the spoken word in [#0071E3]. Pick [five] strong lines at least 10 seconds apart and add a subtle 8% zoom on each. Export 1080 x 1920, 30 fps, H.264 with AAC audio. Before rendering, show me the full transcript and the zoom moments so I can fix them.
  6. Step 6

Approve only what the project needs

Codex asks before it installs Remotion or a speech to text tool, extracts audio or renders. That is normal.

Reject anything that reaches files outside the folder, asks for a password, an API key or a card, or uploads your video anywhere.

  7. Step 7

Check the transcript before you render

Speech to text tools get names and English words wrong, and those mistakes end up in your captions.

Read the whole transcript, send every fix in one message, then ask it to render.

    PromptFix, then render
Fix these words in the transcript: [Claude not Cloud], [Remotion not Promotion]. Keep everything else. Then render the reel and tell me the exact path of the exported file.
  8. Step 8

    Export and save your style

The video usually lands in an out folder inside the project. One more message gets you a 4:5 version for the feed.

Once you like the look, have it save your caption, colour and zoom settings as a skill, so your next edit starts close to done.

    PromptSave the style
Save the caption style, colours, zoom rules and export settings from this edit as a reusable skill called [my-reel-style], so my next edit starts from it.
  9. Step 9

Know the license, and try it in Claude Code

Remotion is free for individuals and for teams and companies of up to 3 people. With 4 or more people you need a Company License from Remotion.

The same idea works in Claude Code: Remotion maintains an official plugin for it too, used the same way.

Ready prompts to copy

Prompt4:5 version for the feed
Make a second export of the same edit at 1080 x 1350 for the Instagram feed. Keep the captions inside the frame and move them up if they get cut.

The takeaway

You film. Codex cuts and captions. You read the transcript before it renders.
