أكمل مهامك الليلية رغم ازدحام الـ API مع retry watchdogKeep overnight Claude Code jobs alive through API congestion
Set up Claude Code so an overnight job rides out API congestion on its own, and cap how long it waits so it never hangs forever.
Who this guide is for
Founders, developers and creators who run Claude Code on long or scheduled jobs with nobody watching.
Key terms
- 429 and 529
- Status codes the API returns. 429 means too many requests or a usage limit. 529 means the API is at capacity for all users. A 529 is not your quota.
- Retry
- Claude Code resends a failed request by itself, waiting longer each time. By default it tries up to ten times, then shows you the error.
- Unattended session
- A session that runs while you are away, like a CI job or a scheduled script.
- Retry watchdog
- A mode that keeps retrying 429 and 529 capacity errors without a limit instead of stopping after ten tries.
The steps
Step 1
Know the failure before you change anything
An overnight job dies at 3am because the API was busy for five minutes. It is the most common way unattended work breaks.
The default: Claude Code retries up to ten times with growing waits, then shows the error and stops. You are asleep.
The official errors page documents the fix: an environment variable called CLAUDE_CODE_RETRY_WATCHDOG.
