Claude Duet is an agent that messages you first, keeps working while you are away, and asks before it pays or sends. It takes your memory, skills and connected apps from your Claude account. Here you set all of that up now and try the same idea by hand today.
Who this guide is for
Anyone who uses Claude for work or a business and wants to be ready for their first agent
Key terms
- Agent
- An AI program that takes a task and carries it out in steps on its own, instead of answering one question.
- Proactive
- It comes to you with what needs you, instead of waiting for you to ask.
- Memory
- What Claude remembers about you and your work from one chat to the next.
- Connector
- A link between Claude and an app like Gmail or Calendar so it can read from it and work in it.
- Approval
- The moment the agent stops, shows you the step, and waits until you say yes.
The steps
Step 1
Understand Claude Duet in one minute
Claude Duet is a new app from Anthropic, released as a research preview on October 21, 2026. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5.
It tells you what needs you first and what can wait. It takes tasks small and large and keeps working on its own cloud computer even after you close the app.
Before it sends a message, pays, signs or deletes anything, it shows you the step and waits for your approval. Anthropic itself says it can still misjudge what is urgent.
Right now it is waitlist only, for Pro and Max subscribers in the US. Team and Enterprise are not included yet.

Step 2
Turn on memory in Claude
Duet takes memory from your account, so everything Claude knows about you now saves you explaining from scratch later.
Open Settings, then Capabilities, and turn on Generate memory from chat history. Then tell it who you are and what you do with the prompt below.
PromptIntroduce yourself to ClaudeRemember this about me: My name is [your name] and I work on [your role or business]. The three things I track every week: [1], [2], [3]. People I answer first: [names or roles]. I work from [time] to [time], [your city] time, and I don't want to be pinged after [time]. Confirm what you saved in short bullets.
Step 3
Connect the apps your work runs on
An agent only sees what you connect. Open Settings, then Connectors, and connect the apps where your real work lives: email, calendar and files.
Start with three. Every extra app is one more door it can read from, so connect only what you need.
Tip: You can disconnect any app at any time from the same page.
Step 4
Try the morning brief by hand today
The core of Duet is the morning brief: what needs you today and what can wait.
You can try the same idea now in a normal Claude chat once email and calendar are connected. Paste the prompt every morning for a week and check whether its order matches your own judgment.
PromptMorning briefOpen my email and calendar for the last 24 hours and today. Sort everything into three lists: 1. Needs me today, with the reason in one line. 2. Can wait this week. 3. Needs nothing from me. For each item in list 1, draft the reply or the next step, and do not send anything. If you are unsure about an item's priority, put it in list 1 and tell me why.
Step 5
Write your own approval rules
Duet asks before paying, sending, signing and deleting. But you know better than it does what is sensitive in your work.
Write your rules now and save them to memory, so any agent you use later starts from them.
PromptMy agent rulesSave these rules for any work you do for me: Do without asking: [example: sort email, draft replies, summarise files]. Always ask me first: any message sent in my name, any payment, any deletion, any meeting with [names]. Never do: [example: reply to new clients, change prices]. If something is urgent and I have not replied within [time], [what to do]. Repeat the rules back to me in a table so I can check them.
Step 6
Turn a repeat task into a skill
Duet takes skills from your account. Pick a task you repeat every week, like reminding clients about invoices, and have Claude write fixed steps for it.
After that, whenever you name the task, it follows the same steps instead of you explaining again.
PromptWrite a skill for a repeat taskI want a skill called [task name]. I do it every [day or week], and my steps today are: [your steps in your own words]. Write the skill as clear steps: what to read, what to sort, and what to show me before anything is sent. Ask me about any unclear step before you write it.
Step 7
Join the waitlist if you are in the US
If you have Pro or Max and you are in the US, go to claude.com/product/claude-duet and fill in the Join the waitlist form. Anthropic will email you when your access is ready.
If you are outside the US, everything above already helps in regular Claude today, and it will be ready the day Duet reaches you.

Ready prompts to copy
Show me everything you did today in a table: the task, what you did, and whether it needed my approval. Then suggest one thing I could let you do without asking, and one thing you should always ask me about.
The takeaway
An agent is only as smart as what it knows about you. Set up memory, apps and rules today, and start day one with Duet at step ten.
