ابنِ أول mod لـ Claude Code وافحص أي mod قبل ما تثق فيهBuild Your First Claude Code Mod and Vet Any Mod Before You Trust It
Build a small mod that counts tool calls inside Claude Code and adds a /tally command, then learn how to vet any mod before it runs and how to turn it off.
Who this guide is for
Developers and Claude Code users who want to customize the interface and behavior with a little code, or try ready made mods safely.
Key terms
- mod
- A plugin with a JavaScript or TypeScript entry file. Claude Code calls its functions when events happen, like a tool call or the interface being drawn, so it can change how Claude Code looks and behaves.
- hook
- A function inside the mod tied to one event. It can watch the event, change it, or handle it itself.
- hooks module
- The main code file of the mod. Claude Code calls the register function in it on load, and it registers every hook.
- plugin-dir
- A flag that loads a plugin folder for one session without installing it. Good for development and trials.
The steps
Step 1
Check that mods can run for you
Mods need Claude Code v2.1.287 or later, and they are on by default. In the Desktop app, the bundled copy supports them from v2.1.286.
Run the command below in your terminal and read the version. If it is older, update Claude Code.
Then open Claude Code and type /plugin. A dim line under the tabs shows how many mods are active and their names.
PromptVersion checkclaude --version
Tip: A mod is not a skill. A skill is instructions Claude reads. A mod is code that runs inside Claude Code itself.
