Build a full creative direction for one product with Claude: a brief, a style sheet, a shot list and one prompt per shot for the image tool you use, so every image feels like the same campaign.
Who this guide is for
Small business owners and creators who make product images with AI
Key terms
- Creative direction
- The single decision that holds a campaign together: who it is for, how it should feel and how it looks. Without it every image lives in a different world.
- Style sheet
- A short, fixed description of light, colour, lens and mood. You put it at the start of every prompt so the images stay consistent.
- Shot list
- The images the campaign needs, each with a clear job: introduce the product, make it tempting, show it in use, or leave room for copy.
- Claude and images
- Claude does not generate photos. It views and analyzes the images you upload and writes the direction and the prompts. The images come from the image tool you use.
The steps
Step 1
Pick one product and gather your references
Start with one product, not the whole store. Take one clean photo on a plain background.
Then collect 3 to 5 reference images you like: ads, product shots, anything close to the feeling you want. Upload them all to a new chat with Claude.
PromptAnalyze the referencesThis is my product: [product name and one line description]. These are reference images I like. Analyze what they share in light, colour, camera angle, backgrounds and mood. Do not suggest anything yet, just analyze.
Tip: References from one world beat many that clash.
Step 2
Write the brief in three answers
Before any image, Claude needs three things: who the campaign is for, what makes you different, and the brand rules (colours, type, things to avoid).
Without a brief, every image tries to sell to everyone.
PromptThe briefHere is the campaign brief: Who it is for: [audience, for example office workers who want an afternoon break] What makes us different: [one clear difference] Brand rules: [colours, type, anything off limits] Rewrite it as a clean five line brief and ask me if anything is missing.
Step 3
Pull a style sheet from the references
Ask Claude to turn the reference analysis and the brief into a short style sheet. This sheet is what keeps the images consistent.
Keep it short and specific, because it goes at the start of every prompt.
PromptStyle sheetFrom the reference analysis and the brief, write a style sheet in exactly 4 lines: light, colour, lens and angle, mood. Each line short and specific, no vague words like beautiful or professional.
Tip: Save the sheet in a note. The next campaign for this product starts from it.
Step 4
Build a shot list where every image has a job
A campaign is not a pile of nice images. Each one has a job: the hero introduces the product, the detail makes it tempting, the in use shot convinces, and the empty space shot leaves room for copy.
Any image without a job comes off the list.
PromptShot listWrite a shot list of [number] images for this campaign. For each shot: its name, a one line description and its job (introduce, tempt, convince or advertise). Where they will be used: [Instagram, ads, store page].
Step 5
Expand into one prompt per shot, same style
Now ask for one prompt per shot. The trick: every prompt starts with the style sheet word for word, then the shot.
Paste the prompts into the image tool you use, one by one.
PromptOne prompt per shotFor each shot in the list, write one image prompt in English. Start every prompt with the style sheet word for word: [paste the style sheet]. Then describe the shot, the product placement and the framing. Keep each prompt under 80 words. Add the aspect ratio at the end: [4:5 or 9:16].
Step 6
Send the images back to Claude for review
When the images are ready, upload them to the same chat. Claude compares each one with the style sheet and tells you which ones drifted and what to change in their prompts.
Repeat until the whole batch reads as one campaign.
PromptReviewThese are the images I got. Compare each one with the style sheet and the shot list. For each image: does it do its job, what drifted from the style, and exactly what should I change in its prompt?
Ready prompts to copy
Here is the style sheet from our last campaign: [paste the sheet]. We want a new campaign for [an occasion or a new product]. Keep the same style and write a new shot list of [number] images, each with a job.
The takeaway
Your image tool is the camera. Claude is the director. Start with the brief and the style sheet, and the images follow.
