سلّم المهام الجانبية لـ fork في كلود كود بأمر subtaskHand side tasks to a Claude Code fork with subtask
Learn to spin a fork off your Claude Code conversation. It works on a side task with full knowledge of what you said, while you keep going in the main session.
Who this guide is for
Anyone using Claude Code who loses context every time they delegate a side task.
Key terms
- Fork
- A subagent that inherits the whole conversation at the moment it starts. It has the same system prompt, tools and model, and sends back only its final result.
- Regular subagent
- A subagent that starts from a clean context. You give it the task in a message and it knows nothing about your conversation.
- Prompt cache
- A fork reuses the main session's cache, so it costs less than a fresh subagent that needs the same background.
- Worktree
- A separate copy of your project in git. It lets a fork edit files away from your main folder.
The steps
Step 1
Check you are on a recent version
Forks run on their own in the interactive terminal from version 2.1.232, and are on by default everywhere else from 2.1.302.
Run claude --version and confirm your number is at or above those.
If you are older, update Claude Code first.
Tip: The /subtask command works whether or not fork mode is on.
