اسأل Claude أي سؤال بدون ما ينحفظ: المحادثة المتخفية والذاكرة خطوة بخطوةAsk Claude Anything Without It Being Saved: Incognito Chats and Memory, Step by Step
Know what Claude's memory keeps about you, open an incognito chat that is not saved to history or memory, review or pause your memory, and use a ready prompt for the questions you feel shy asking.
Who this guide is for
Anyone using Claude who wants to know what gets saved and when to ask without a trace.
Key terms
- memory
- A summary Claude keeps about your work, projects and style so you do not explain yourself every time. On by default for Free, Pro and Max.
- incognito chat
- A temporary chat that is not saved to your chat history or to Claude's memory. Available on every plan.
- retention
- How long a chat is kept by Anthropic even when it is not in your history. For incognito chats: 30 days by default.
The steps
Step 1
Know what memory keeps
Claude's memory keeps your role and field, your projects, how you talk and work, and your technical preferences.
By default it does not store sensitive topics such as health, religion or politics, and some data like ID numbers and financial account numbers is never saved. Memory is there to understand your work, not to judge your questions.
Tip: On Team and Enterprise, memory stays off until the owner allows it and you turn it on.
Step 2
Open an incognito chat
Start a new chat outside any project. In the upper right corner you will see a ghost icon. Click it.
The chat gets a black border and an Incognito chat label in the upper left. Nothing you type here goes to your history or your memory, and Claude will not pull from it when searching past chats.
Tip: Inside a project there is no ghost. Step out of the project first.
Step 3
Know its limits
Incognito chats are kept for 30 days by default, or longer on Enterprise under the organization's retention setting.
They are not used for model training and are left out of your monthly recap. Once closed they cannot be reopened or turned into a regular chat, and in the new Claude experience they open in the previous experience, so Claude cannot create files or run code there.
Step 4
Review or pause your memory
Go to Settings, then Your Claude, and click Manage next to Your memory. You will see your topics. Open any topic to read, edit or delete it.
Want to stop saving for a while? Pause memory. Want to erase everything? Reset memory, and it cannot be undone.
PromptMake it forget one thingForget anything you saved about [topic], and tell me exactly what you removed.
Step 5
Ask the simple question properly
The question you feel shy about is often the best one. Make it complete: say your level, ask for an everyday example and ask for the common mistake.
PromptThe simple question promptMy question might be basic: [your question]. Explain it like it is my first time hearing about it, with an example from daily life, and tell me the mistake most people make with it.
Ready prompts to copy
Summarize what you know about me from your memory in short points, and flag anything that might be out of date.
Explain [concept] twice: once as if I am in high school, once as if I start working with it tomorrow. End each one with a single question that tests my understanding.
The takeaway
There are no dumb questions, only incomplete ones. And if you want it unsaved, tap the ghost.
