كم باقي في عمر جوالك؟ افحص البطارية وتاريخ آخر تحديث في خمس دقايقHow Much Life Is Left in Your Phone? Check the Battery and the Last Update Date in Five Minutes

Your phone has a hidden expiry date in two places: the battery and the updates. After this guide you can read both and know whether you need a new battery or a new phone.

Who this guide is for

Anyone with a phone who is not sure whether to repair it or replace it

Key terms

Battery Health
How much of the battery's original capacity is left. 100% means like new, and the number drops with time and use.
Charge Cycle
One full cycle means you used the equivalent of 100% of the battery, even across several charges. Half one day and half the next is one cycle.
Security Updates
Patches that close holes in the phone's software. When they stop, the phone still works, but new holes stay open.
End of Support
The day the maker stops sending updates to a model. That is the real expiry date of a phone.

The steps

  1. Step 1

    Check battery health on iPhone

Open Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health. Maximum Capacity is how much of the battery is left.

On iPhone 15 and later, also go to Settings, General, About, and scroll to Battery. You will see Cycle Count, plus the manufacture date and first use.

Tip: Apple says iPhone 15 and later batteries are designed to keep 80% of their capacity at 1,000 cycles under ideal conditions, and older models at 500.

  2. Step 2

    Check the battery on Android

It depends on the maker and the version. In Settings, search for Battery health or Battery information.

On Samsung phones, the Samsung Members app has a Diagnostics section that checks the battery. On Pixel phones, look inside Battery settings for Battery health. If you find nothing, your version does not show it, and an official service centre can check it.

  3. Step 3

Find when updates end for your model

This is the important part. Find the maker's official page for how many years of updates your model gets.

Google publishes a page with the update end date for every Pixel. Samsung announces the years of updates with each flagship, such as seven years for the Galaxy S24 series. Apple does not publish a fixed date, but every year it lists the devices the new iOS supports, so check whether yours is on it.

    PromptAsk AI about your model
I have a [exact model name] bought in [month and year]. Search only the maker's official sources and tell me how many years of OS and security updates the maker promised for this model, and roughly when they end. Give a source link for each fact, and if you cannot find an official source, say so clearly.
  4. Step 4

    Read the two numbers together

You now have two numbers: battery health, and how long updates have left.

If the battery is under 80% and updates have years left, the problem is only the battery. A battery replacement at an authorised service centre brings the phone close to how it was.

If updates have stopped or are about to, a new battery will not fix that. That is the real expiry date.

  5. Step 5

Make the battery last longer from today

Heat is the biggest enemy of a battery. Do not leave the phone in a car in the sun, and do not charge it while it is hot.

On iPhone, go to Settings, Battery, Charging and turn on optimised charging; on iPhone 15 and later you can set an 80% limit. On Android, look for Protect battery or Adaptive charging in battery settings.

Tip: Fast charging is not the problem by itself. The heat that comes with it is.

  6. Step 6

When updates stop, change how you use it

A phone without updates does not break overnight, but it gets weaker against new holes.

Keep sensitive apps like your bank and main email on a phone that still gets updates. The old phone can do light jobs, or go to a recycling programme.

Ready prompts to copy

PromptDecide: repair or replace
My phone is a [model], battery health [number]%, cycle count [number if known], and the maker's updates end around [year]. My daily use: [for example work, banking, photos]. Compare replacing the battery with replacing the phone, with reasons, and do not assume prices you do not know.

The takeaway

A battery can be replaced. Updates that stop never come back. Know both dates and decide on them.
