Key terms

Sign in expiry
The date your claude.ai login stops working. After it, any job that needs Claude Code fails until someone signs in again.
Print mode
Running claude -p "your prompt". Claude answers once and exits, which makes it easy to call from scripts and schedulers.
Long lived token
A token made for scripts and CI with claude setup-token. It needs a Claude subscription and is not tied to your normal sign in.

The steps

  1. Step 1

    Update Claude Code

    The expiry fields arrived in version 2.1.318 (November 4, 2026). Run claude update in your terminal, then claude --version to confirm you are on 2.1.318 or later.

    Older versions still work, they just do not show the expiry date.
