The steps
Step 1
Know what is changing
On October 30, 2026, Anthropic deprecated fast mode for Opus 4.8. It is removed on November 30, 2026.
After that date, if you are still on Opus 4.8 with fast mode on, the API rejects your requests. A session or scheduled job fails.
The fix is simple: move to Opus 5.5, or turn fast mode off.
