🔧 Claude Code
🔧 Anthropic API
JavaScript: npm install @anthropic-ai/sdk

Three Parallel Subagents That Compress a Week of Work
Running one long Claude session is not the same as running three focused agents at once — and the difference is bigger than you think.
If you have ever felt a Claude session get slower and less precise halfway through a big task, that is not random. The more you pack into a single context, the more attention gets distributed across everything already said. Subagents are the answer to this — not because they are smarter, but because each one works with complete focus on a single job.
What it actually is
A subagent is an independent Claude instance launched to handle one specific task, with a clean context and no awareness of what the other agents are doing. Think of it like assigning a project to three specialists instead of asking one generalist to do everything. The researcher digs. The analyst interprets. The writer drafts. None of them carry the weight of the others.
The key word is parallel. All three run at the same time, not one after another. That distinction is what changes the economics of the whole task.
How it works
Say you want to produce a full market report on a specific industry. In a standard session, Claude researches, then analyzes, then writes. Each step waits on the previous one, and the context grows heavier with every exchange.
With subagents, the flow looks like this:
1️⃣ You open Claude Code and write to the main orchestrating agent: "Launch three subagents in parallel. The first researches the latest market data. The second analyzes the top competitors. The third drafts the report structure based on what the others return."
2️⃣ The orchestrator fires all three simultaneously. Each receives only its specific instructions and nothing else.
3️⃣ When all three finish, the orchestrator collects their outputs and assembles the final deliverable for you.
The researcher never knows what the writer is doing. That isolation is exactly why the quality holds. Every agent operates at full capacity on one thing only. 🎯
Where you see it
This pattern maps directly onto work most people are already doing:
📄 Content production: one agent researches, one drafts, one edits — all running at the same time
🔎 Data analysis: one agent pulls the numbers, one interprets the trends, one writes the recommendations
💼 Executive briefings: tasks that used to take a full day of back and forth compress into minutes
🛒 Pre-purchase decisions: evaluating a product, a vendor, or competing options, with each agent covering a different angle
🛠️ Tools you actually use
🔧 Claude Code
This is the primary tool for running subagents without writing any code yourself. Claude Code has a built-in Agent tool that lets you spawn parallel subagents directly inside a session, with full control over instructions and how results get combined.
How to get started:
1️⃣ Install Claude Code via your Terminal by running: npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code
2️⃣ Navigate to your project folder and launch it by typing: claude
3️⃣ Write a prompt to the orchestrator agent that names the subagents, gives each a specific task, and describes how they should return their results
🔧 Anthropic API
For developers who want to wire this pattern into their own applications. The API lets you fire multiple requests simultaneously and aggregate the results programmatically, with no manual orchestration needed.
How to get started:
1️⃣ Sign up at console.anthropic.com and generate your API key from the dashboard
2️⃣ Install the SDK you need: pip install anthropic for Python or npm install @anthropic-ai/sdk for JavaScript
3️⃣ Write code that sends three requests in parallel using async/await or Promise.all and merges the responses once all three complete
💡 Try it yourself: step by step
Scenario: you want to write a polished article on a tech topic for your website or social content. Instead of asking Claude to handle everything in sequence, split it across three agents.
1️⃣ Open Claude Code and start a fresh session. Write to the orchestrator: "Run three subagents in parallel to produce an article about [your topic]. Agent one: research the most important facts and recent developments. Agent two: analyze the target audience and the right tone for this piece. Agent three: write a first draft of the article."
2️⃣ Watch all three work simultaneously. Each shows its own progress independently inside the session.
3️⃣ When they finish, ask the orchestrator: "Combine the outputs from all three agents into a final cohesive article."
4️⃣ You receive an article that was researched thoroughly, written with a clear audience in mind, and drafted at full focus — in less time than the standard single-session approach.
What to do next
✅ Run this on a real task you have today, even a small one, and compare the output quality to your usual method
✅ Search "multi-agent orchestration" to understand how to build larger systems on this same principle
✅ Ask yourself which tasks you currently hand to Claude in one shot could be split cleanly across three independent agents
Parallelism is not just a speed trick — it is a fundamentally different way to think about how you use AI.
