🔧 Claude Code

🔧 ملف CONTEXT.md

Stop Claude at 70% Context
Claude doesn't degrade between sessions. It degrades inside them. Knowing when to exit is the skill that separates sharp results from recycled answers.

If you've noticed Claude getting vague, repetitive, or strangely cautious toward the end of a long session, you weren't imagining it. The model wasn't having an off day. You ran out of runway.

🧩 What the context window actually is

Every conversation you have with Claude lives inside what's called a context window. Think of it as a physical whiteboard in the room. Everything written on it is visible: your messages, Claude's replies, any files you've shared. The whiteboard has a fixed size. Once it fills up, nothing new can be added without something older getting pushed to the edges, where Claude pays it progressively less attention.

The window doesn't reset between your messages. It accumulates. A long session doesn't just feel heavy. It is heavy, in the sense that Claude has more to process and less focused attention to give each piece of it.

⚙️ How the degradation actually happens

It's not a cliff. It's a slope that gets steeper the longer you stay.

1️⃣ Zero to 70%: Claude is operating at full capacity. It tracks details, connects ideas across the conversation, and gives answers that feel coherent and complete.
2️⃣ 70% to 85%: The first signs appear. Responses get slightly less precise. Claude may ask you to clarify something it already knows. You might need to remind it of decisions made earlier in the same session.
3️⃣ 85% to 95%: Noticeable degradation. Repeated suggestions, avoidance of complex subtasks, a shift toward safe and generic answers over specific and useful ones.
4️⃣ Above 95%: Half capacity. Responses shorten, contradict earlier parts of the session, and lose the thread of the project entirely.

The danger is that you rarely notice you're at 90% until the quality has already dropped and the session has already given you less than it should have.

🌍 Where you'll feel this

💻 Coding sessions: Claude helps you architect a feature at the start of a session, then writes code that contradicts that architecture by the end.
📄 Document editing: You reject a suggestion early on, and Claude recommends the same thing again two hours later as if it never happened.
🔍 Research and analysis: The early summaries are precise and structured. The late ones are broad and forgettable.
🗂️ Project planning: You set clear priorities at the top of the conversation. By the end, Claude has quietly deprioritized them without saying so.

🛠️ Tools you actually use

🔧 Claude Code
Anthropic's official command line interface for working with Claude directly from your terminal. It gives you a live context usage indicator at the bottom of the screen, which turns context management from guesswork into something you can actually see and respond to in time.
How to get started:
1️⃣ Open your terminal and run: npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code
2️⃣ Launch it with: claude
3️⃣ Watch the indicator at the bottom of the screen. When it crosses 70%, that's your signal to wrap up the session before quality drops, not after.

🔧 CONTEXT.md (the summary file method)
Not a piece of software, but a practice that protects every future session. Before you exit a session, you ask Claude to generate a structured summary of everything accomplished, every decision made, and the exact next step. You save that as a plain text file. The next session starts by reading it, which means you bring in clean and dense context instead of a diluted one.
How to set it up:
1️⃣ Create a file called CONTEXT.md in your project folder.
2️⃣ At the end of every session, ask Claude: "Summarize what we accomplished today, the decisions we made, and the exact next step in detail." Paste the response into the file.
3️⃣ At the start of every new session, paste the contents of CONTEXT.md as your opening message and tell Claude to start from there.

💡 Try it yourself: step by step

Scenario: you're in a coding session with Claude and you want to make sure quality stays high from the first message to the last.

1️⃣ Open Claude Code and give Claude full project context at the very beginning of the session. Don't save the context for later. The stronger and clearer the start, the longer your usable runway before degradation sets in.
2️⃣ When the context indicator reaches 65% to 70%, stop adding new tasks. Before you exit, ask Claude: "Summarize everything we've done today, the decisions we made, and the exact next step with as much detail as possible."
3️⃣ Copy that summary into your CONTEXT.md file. Make sure it includes the overall goal, what is complete, what is incomplete, and any technical decisions or constraints that matter for the next session.
4️⃣ Start a new session and paste the contents of CONTEXT.md as your first message. You'll notice the new session picks up at the same quality level the old one started at, sometimes sharper, because the context is clean and focused instead of accumulated and diluted.

What to do next

✅ In your next Claude session, watch the context indicator and exit at 70% instead of waiting for quality to slip and then wondering where it went.
✅ Create a CONTEXT.md file for every project you work on with Claude and develop a template format that fits your workflow.
✅ Go back and look at your last long Claude session. Did the answers at the end match the quality of the ones at the beginning? That gap is your honest answer about whether you've been managing context well.

The model isn't the variable. How you manage its context is.
